@Liwei: Thanks for the concern. Temporarily "disfigured" and found out the war scars were on my shoulders, elbows, knees and chest as well... hopefully the abrasions will dry up by Sunday.. But I m still good to go for this sunday's training.  Actually, the abrasions were my secondary concern.. almost kena banned from sunday's games by my wife.. have to do pretend the abrasions do not cause pain then she let it go.. :p

hahaha. very intriguing idea. west-siders should be able to come up with a decent team.

I am not sure if pple might have suggested this before.. just a thought.. since we usually have enough reserves for the training, how about having 2 linemen to help the referee spot off-sides and outs? From a referee's view, it is often hard to judge a marginal off-side when he's on the other side of the field... Having linesmen will help the referee in his decision.

I agree with Jason idea. Maybe we can try in out on that.

yup. linesmen will definitely be a great help to the ref, not just on offsides, but even with out-of-bound ball on those faded lines.

i guess the tricky part on every Sunday is to find an appropriate ref, let alone linesmen.
reserves who prefer not to remain idle are more than welcomed to volunteer for ref/linesmen roles.

i also like to take this opportunity to re-emphasize my full support to any team mates who are assuming these officiating roles.
in perspective, there is no perfect decision, especially when it go against your team.
even with video replay in slow motion, there will still be 2 schools of interpreting a decision, depending which side u are on.

players are also encouraged to make our ref's job easier, by respecting their decisions. less argument = more game time.
end of the day, the ref is still our team mate and it is not like we are paying him for FIFA standard of refereeing service, when even FIFA refs make blunders.

I second what Kent's trying to put rhrough:

"players are also encouraged to make our ref's job easier, by respecting their decisions. less argument = more game time.
end of the day, the ref is still our team mate and it is not like we are paying him for FIFA standard of refereeing service, when even FIFA refs make blunders"

Most of us are not trained in refereeing and will definitely make mistakes while doing the job. I am one of the guilty ones and still learning to do a better job. However, I would like to emphasize that players should always take the whistle blow as a cue. As long as the whistle has not been blown, the ball is still in play.

Nothing is worse than the 1st team contesting a referee's decision and stops play, while the opposing team continues to play and scores a goal... In the end, (1) the 1st team is unhappy for conceding a sloppy goal (2) the opposing team doesn't feel shiok scoring the goal (3) the referee feels the worst (that's how i felt refereeing for 2 games
